Shattered Youth
We will call her Marianne. She is a beautiful six year old girl, wearing a dark blue dress and pink rubber shoes. She sits beside her father while we talk with him about what happened to her last month, before their family fled here to Bulengo camp a few miles east of the fighting on the front line. Marianne sits with her hands in her lap, and doesn’t say a word.

It also makes me tremble for Darfurian refugees as today’s news indicates that they will continue to get squeezed between Sudanese and Chadian violence in which it will become increasingly difficult for non-profit aid groups to safely operate.

Reading this brings me much pain, I have an eight year old and can think of nothing else but protecting her. My heart cries for this child and I wish that I could take her from her world to a better one. No children no matter what age deserves this.
