Ben Kiernan is the founding director of the Genocide Studies Program at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies and is the A. Whitney Griswold Professor of History. Ben talks to Jerry Fowler about his new book, Blood and Soil: A World History of Genocide and Extermination from Sparta to Darfur and how genocide, in practice, is not a recent phenomenon.

Darfur’s Defender

Mossaad Mohamed Ali, a lawyer, an environmentalist and a human rights defender based in Nyala, South Darfur, is the coordinator of the Amel Center for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Victims of Torture. In an interview with Jerry Fowler, Mossaad talks about his involvement to provide legal advice and representation to hundreds facing human rights violations in Darfur and the situation there as it exists today.

Man on a Mission

Brian Steidle, a former Marine, served as an unarmed military observer and a United States representative to the African Union where he took photographs documenting the atrocities of the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. He recently published a book about his experiences in Darfur called A Devil Came on Horseback: Bearing Witness to a Genocide in Darfur and featured in the documentary of the same title. Brian speaks to Jerry Fowler about his experience in Darfur and his mission to bring awareness through multimedia.
